The Support Service Living Unit

The Support Service Living Unit program provides a combination of accessible, subsidized housing with twenty-four hour personal assistance service.

Personal assistance enables adults with a physical disability to live independently in the community. Essentially, personal assistance is providing persons with physical disabilities with activities of daily living that, if the person did not have a disability, they could do for themselves. The services are initiated and directed by the consumer and are available on a schedules and per request basis.

Personal assistance may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Personal grooming and hygiene
  • Bathing and washing
  • Transferring and positioning
  • Meal preparation
  • Dressing and undressing
  • Toileting and bladder/bowel care
  • Housekeeping

 Supportive Housing Cluster Units

The Supportive Housing program provides the combination of accessible housing units with twenty-four hour support in a shared living environment.

The cluster units in Andras Court offer two five-unit clusters for ten individuals who require access to on-site support. The environment is more structured for individuals who have
social as well as physical care needs.

Community Outreach Program

Community Outreach provides personal assistance to individuals with physical disabilities who are living in the City of Thunder Bay or a North Shore community. The personal
assistance service is available in an individual’s own home, on a scheduled basis for a
maximum of four hours per day. CSINW encourages individuals to further maximize their level of independence by providing the opportunity for consumers to assume complete
responsibility for hiring, training, scheduling and managing their own Personal Assistants.
Personal assistance is not provided through community outreach if an individual’s needs may be more appropriately serviced through an alternative service such as the Community Care Access Centre (CCAC).

Transitional Living Services

Life skills and Transitional Living Services are an integrated part of the Support Service
Living Unit and Community Outreach programs. Learning and practising the skills
